Composite structures in steel and concrete have gained increasing importance and wide-spread acceptance over recent years and their influence has effectively been extended to aIl areas of construction. These composite structures provide new possibilities and more effective combined employment of concrete and steel. These being the core materials employed in the vast majority of construction work today. These factors may be fully appreciated through a perusal of the papers presented in these proceedings. The papers cover subjects ranging from the type, strength and construction of these bridges and also, and more importantly, provide a wide spectrum of solutions and technical arrangements which may easily be applied to other structures and construction systems, thereby improving aIl facets of the same from design to completion. The transcripts of the round table debates held each day and in which the day's speakers received aIl manner of comments from those participating in the sama, effectively serve to gain a fuller understanding of the subjects in question and provide new angles regarding the sama. These proceedings provide a wide-ranging and detailed compendium of the theory and practice of composite structures applied to bridges, and offer an up-to-date view of the state-of-the-art of this technology.
